The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office III on Monday started the prepositioning of manpower and equipment to prepare for the possible effect of Tropical Storm Maring which is expected to hit the northern part of Luzon Monday night.
DPWH Regional Director Roseller A. Tolentino said he has alerted all their district engineering offices in Central Luzon to prepare for any eventuality.
“We need to prepare for the possible impact of this typhoon. Last month, some sections of Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road were impassable for several days due to landslides triggered by heavy rains caused by typhoons Kiko and Jolina. We have instructed our district engineers to deploy their disaster management teams in the identified hazard-prone areas in their respective areas of jurisdiction so that they can respond immediately in case they need to conduct clearing operations,” Tolentino said in a social media post.
Meanwhile, DPWH-Aurora District Engineer Roderick A. Andal reported that their resources have been prepositioned near the detour road at the Diteki River.
“We are anticipating that the detour road may be again affected by the rising water,” Andal said.
Another area of concern is the Labi Section of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija which was closed to traffic in September due to massive landslides.
Engineer Eulogio C. Pesa, the maintenance point person of the Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office, said all their quick response assets are already positioned and they are ready to conduct road clearing operations if needed.
