DOH holds initial plan assessment for Bacolod City hospital

The Department of Health (DOH) has conducted an initial assessment of the schematic plan for the construction of the Bacolod City General Hospital expected to start next year.

Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya, author of the law for the establishment of the city hospital, in a statement on Tuesday bared he had a virtual meeting on Monday with DOH-Western Visayas regional director Adriano Suba-an along with engineers Rochelle Ang and Japhit Nasis.

“I thank the DOH for organizing the meeting. We will continue our cooperation for the implementation of Republic Act 11564, which we authored in Congress, to build a hospital for Bacolodnons,” he said.

Gasataya said with the assistance of the DOH and the Department of Public Works and Highways, he hopes that the project will be implemented beginning next year.

He said a fund of PHP250 million has been allocated for the construction of the city hospital as included in the proposal for next year’s national budget.

RA 11564, which establishes the Bacolod City General Hospital, was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte on June 24.

Gasataya authored House Bill 6731 on the establishment of the health facility while Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, who traces his roots to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, sponsored the counterpart Senate Bill 1647.

Several properties are being offered for donation to the government for the establishment of the hospital with locations in Barangays Alijis, Bata, Felisa, and Vista Alegre, but the final site has yet to be announced by the city government.
