1st district solon seeks mayoral post in Zambo City

Another aspirant for city mayor and his party members have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) Thursday for the 2022 national and local elections before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here.

The aspirant for city mayor is incumbent 1st District Rep. Cesar Jimenez, who filed his COC under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

However, incumbent City Councilor Josephine Pareja, the vice mayoralty bet of Jimenez, and all of the other candidates filed their COCs carrying the local banner of Prosperidad y Amor para na Zamboanga (PAZ).

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, said PAZ, headed by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, has been accredited as a local political party by the Comelec central office.

They named their group “Team Climaco,” although Jimenez is the candidate for mayor.

Jimenez’s candidate for representative in the 1st District is Salazar, while incumbent Councilor Juan Climaco Elago II, a lawyer, is the aspirant for representative in the 2nd congressional district.

They have fielded a complete lineup for the eight-seat city council slate in each of the two districts.

“We are complete not only in quantity but in quality. We will continue to help and serve with love for the prosperity of Zamboanga,” Jimenez said.

The candidates for councilors included a lawyer, barangay officials, former city councilors, local media personalities, and representatives from the business sector.

Meanwhile, Comelec Regional Director Rey Sumalipao said some 400 individuals aspiring for different elective positions have already filed their respective COCs in the different parts of the region.
