Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a 10-percent fare reduction for passengers of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies during Holy Week, from Good Friday until Easter Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II announced on Tuesday that this decision aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for bayanihan, or cooperation, to help mitigate the impact of the Middle East conflict and the subsequent national energy emergency. Mendoza expressed appreciation for the Yanson Group's initiative, which includes bus operators such as Golden Bus Transit and Ceres Transport, both operating nationwide.
The Yanson Group, a prominent player in the transportation sector, also operates Vallacar Transit, Inc., Bachelor Express, Rural Transit Mindanao Inc., Mindanao Start Bus Transport Inc., and Love Transport Express Mindanao, serving areas in the Visayas and Mindanao. The fare reduction will also extend to Southern Bus Star, Sugbo Urban Transit, and Lov Visayas Transport Express in the Visayas.
Additionally, on Tuesday, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Social Welfare and Development announced a collaborative effort to consolidate and validate a list of public utility jeepneys eligible for a cash relief assistance program. This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to tackle the energy crisis, which includes providing fuel subsidies, railway discounts for Metro Manila commuters, free rides, and toll discounts for passenger and cargo vehicles.
