Iligan: The city government of Iligan on Tuesday began water rationing to affected households after its water provider made an emergency shutdown affecting 15,000 to 20,000 households. A statement from the Iligan City Waterworks System (ICWS) indicated that 15 of the city's 44 barangays (village) were affected by the water interruption, most of which are urban communities.
According to Philippines News Agency, ICWS said the shutdown occurred Monday following an 'emergency pipe burst.' The statement from ICWS explained that they did not have prior knowledge of the situation, which prevented them from providing advance notice to residents. The ICWS, operated by the local government, has dispatched personnel to address the pipe repairs overnight.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are actively providing free water rations to the affected residents to mitigate the inconvenience caused by the interruption. ICWS personnel are continuing to conduct repairs and inspections on other main pipelines, prioritizing those that require replacement to prevent future disruptions.
