Warm Weather Persists Across the Philippines as Tropical Storm Sinlaku Stalls

Manila: Warm weather will prevail across the country, the weather bureau said Saturday. In its 4 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that the whole country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

According to Philippines News Agency, moderate winds and moderate seas will be present over the eastern section of Northern Luzon, while the rest of the archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas. PAGASA predicts the heat index, or the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity combines with actual air temperature, to peak at 43°C in Dumangas, Iloilo.

The heat index in parts of Metro Manila could reach between 39°C and 41°C. Meanwhile, the heat index may reach 41°C in Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.

The forecast also indicates a heat index of 40°C in Aparri and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan; Baler, Aurora; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac City; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Coron and Aborlan in Palawan; Legazpi City, Albay; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Catbalogan, Western Samar; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; Davao City, Davao del Sur; Cotabato City, Maguindanao; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

Meanwhile, Severe Tropical Storm Sinlaku was last tracked almost stationary at 2,715 km east of Northeastern Mindanao, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It is packing sustained winds of 110 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 135 kph.
