Wage Hike for Domestic Workers in Region 9 Effective May 20: NWPC

Zamboanga: The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) announced on Tuesday that domestic workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) will see an increase in their minimum wages, ranging from PHP500 to PHP1,000, effective this month.

According to Philippines News Agency, the wage adjustment will take effect on May 20, 2026, and will impact the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian, Zamboanga, as well as the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay. The new wage structure is detailed in Wage Order No. RIX-DW-06 b.

In Chartered Cities and First Class Municipalities, the new minimum wage will be PHP6,000, which is an increase of PHP500 from the previous wage of PHP5,500. Meanwhile, the first class municipalities in Sulu province, including Indanan, Jolo, Parang, Patikul, Siasi, and Talipao, will see a larger increase of PHP1,000, raising the minimum wage to PHP6,000 from PHP5,000.

Other municipalities in Sulu will experience an increase of PHP500, resulting in a new minimum wage of PHP5,500 from the previous rate of PHP5,000. The wage order was officially issued on April 16, 2026.
