Uwan Fatalities Rise to 25 Following Super Typhoon

Manila: Seven more fatalities have been added to the death toll of Super Typhoon Uwan, bringing the total number of casualties to 25 as of Tuesday night. This update was provided by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD Deputy Administrator Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV revealed that 19 of the fatalities were from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). “Ang dumagdag ay sa CAR (the additional fatalities are from CAR),” Alejandro informed reporters. Initially, the OCD had reported 18 deaths earlier in the day, but the numbers have since increased.

In addition to the 19 deaths in CAR, there were three fatalities reported in Region 2, known as Cagayan Valley, and one each in Regions 5 (Bicol), 6 (Western Visayas), and 8 (Eastern Visayas). Alejandro also reported that 29 individuals were injured and two remain missing following the devastation.

The super typhoon struck Luzon and several areas in the Visayas on Sunday, leading to the displacement of 2.4 million people, according to an earlier report by the OCD. In response to the disaster, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has mandated continuous relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions, instructing all government agencies to remain on full alert.
