Sultan kudarat: Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.7 and 5.1 struck Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Phivolcs confirmed that the quakes were part of an ongoing series of earthquakes, also known as a swarm, occurring around the Kalamansig area since January 19. The first quake, with a magnitude of 5.7, hit at 2:47 p.m. Its epicenter was located 40 kilometers southwest of Kalamansig, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake registered an instrumental intensity V in Lebak and an instrumental intensity IV in Palimbang.
The second quake, measuring 5.1 in magnitude, occurred at 2:31 p.m. It also had a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter 39 kilometers southwest of Kalamansig. Lebak experienced an instrumental intensity IV, while Palimbang recorded an instrumental intensity III. Instrumental intensity is determined using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Phivolcs indicated that aftershocks from the magnitude 5.7 earthquake are possible. However, the agency stated that damage is not expected from either of the quakes.
