Tulfo Backs Joint Oversight and On-Ground Inspection of Field Projects

Manila: Senator Erwin Tulfo on Thursday called for the conduct of actual field verification of projects to ensure proper use of public funds. He also backed the creation of a Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Public Expenditures and defended the higher allocation for social protection programs under the 2026 national budget, citing the need for tighter monitoring and stronger disaster preparedness.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tulfo emphasized the importance of on-ground inspections, especially for significant projects such as infrastructure and irrigation. This comes as various agencies have moved into the implementation phase following the enactment of the General Appropriations Act. Tulfo stressed the necessity of having personnel on the ground to conduct random checks, rather than solely relying on reports from secretaries and directors.

In addition, Tulfo defended the increased funding for Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) and the Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP). He referenced the rapid depletion of aid funds during past calamities, underscoring the importance of being prepared for disasters like typhoons and earthquakes. The expansion of MAIFIP has also allowed indigent patients access to private hospitals when public facilities reach capacity, Tulfo noted.
