Trump Claims Russia and China Are Testing Nuclear Weapons

Washington: US President Donald Trump stated that North Korea is not the only country testing nuclear weapons, asserting that Russia and China are also engaging in such activities. He made these remarks during an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes program, broadcast on Sunday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Trump emphasized that while North Korea is often mentioned for its nuclear tests, other countries like Russia and China are conducting their own tests, although these are not commonly discussed. His comments came shortly after he directed the US military to resume testing nuclear weapons, ending a moratorium that lasted more than three decades.

During the interview, Trump expressed his belief that it is crucial for the United States to also test its nuclear arsenal to ensure its effectiveness. He questioned how a country could be confident in its nuclear capabilities without testing them, suggesting that knowing the functionality of these weapons is essential.

Trump highlighted the substantial nuclear power of the United States, claiming it surpasses that of any other nation. He noted that Russia ranks second and China is a distant third but warned that China might catch up within five years. Trump also reiterated his stance on denuclearization, acknowledging the vast stockpiles of nuclear weapons held by various countries and expressing concern about their rapid development.

The President’s comments have sparked discussions regarding global nuclear policies and the potential implications of resuming nuclear tests.
