Trough of LPA Continues to Drench Most of PH

Manila: The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is set to bring rains over most parts of the country, the weather bureau announced. Currently located 1,315 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas as of 2 a.m., the LPA has a high probability of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.

According to Philippines News Agency, the LPA's trough will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Mindanao, and Masbate on Tuesday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that moderate to heavy rains could result in flash floods or landslides.

Additionally, the northeast monsoon will result in light rains over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of the Bicol Region, with isolated light rains expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. PAGASA also noted that moderate to strong winds along with moderate to rough seas will be prevalent over Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

The weather bureau recently announced the end of La Ni±a on Monday. However, they emphasized that other weather and climate systems might still influence rainfall distribution across the country. "Rain-bearing weather systems may bring occasional heavy rainfall that could lead to flash floods and rain-induced landslides in vulnerable areas," PAGASA stated.
