Manila: Three transmission lines in Northern Luzon have gone down due to the impact of Super Typhoon Nando, also known internationally as Ragasa. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that the disruptions began with the Magapit-Camalaniugan 69kV Line serving the Cagayan II Electric Cooperative Inc. (CAGELCO II), which became unavailable at approximately 3:21 p.m. on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, this incident follows the earlier unavailability of the San Esteban-Bangued 69kV Line, which serves the Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO), at 11:39 a.m., and the Lal-lo-Sta. Ana 69kV Line, also serving CAGELCO II, at 9:25 a.m. The NGCP has stated that inspection and restoration efforts for the affected lines will commence as soon as weather conditions permit.
The NGCP has clarified that the power loss may stem from affected transmission facilities under its management or from distribution facilities operated by local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives. It also noted that the specific cities and municipalities experiencing power interruptions are determined by the respective Distribution Utilities, unless an outage impacts the entire franchise area.
The weather bureau’s 8 p.m. report indicated that Typhoon Nando made landfall over Panauitan Island in Calayan, Cagayan province. The center of the typhoon was estimated to be approximately 85 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan.
