Manila: Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa) exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, yet wind signals remain in effect for certain areas of Northern Luzon.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued an 11 a.m. bulletin stating that Signal No. 2 is active in the western portion of the Babuyan Islands, specifically Calayan, Panuitan, Dalupiri, Irao Island, Mabag Island, Barit Island, and Fuga Island. The northwestern portion of mainland Cagayan, including Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, and Santa Praxedes, as well as the northern portion of Apayao in Calanasan and the entire region of Ilocos Norte, are also under this signal. These areas are experiencing gale-force winds.
Areas under Signal No. 1, which will face strong winds, include Batanes, the remainder of the Babuyan Islands, the rest of mainland Cagayan, and the northern portion of Isabela, covering towns like San Manuel, Roxas, and Mallig. Additional regions affected are the rest of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and the northwestern portion of Pangasinan, including Bolinao and Anda.
The typhoon maintained its intensity, with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 230 kph. It was last located 385 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, or 425 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes at 10 a.m.
PAGASA also reported that the typhoon’s trough and the southwest monsoon are causing strong to gale-force gusts in areas such as Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Camarines Norte, and Western Visayas. A gale warning remains over the seaboard of Northern Luzon.
