Spanish Brandy Partners with PH Firm, Penetrates Local Market

Manila: Chalk up another victory for the local spirits scene as Spain-based brand Torres is officially entering the country through a distribution partnership with Tanduay. Torres 5 Light will lead the Philippine debut and introduce to the market its established portfolio and heritage in spirits-making. According to Philippines News Agency, Tanduay president and chief executive officer Lucio Tan III expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "The arrival of Torres in the Philippines marks the coming of two great houses that are united by a shared commitment to excellence and growth. This partnership reflects our vision to offer Filipino consumers world-class spirits." Christian Visalli, Torres Spirits global managing director, shared his excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing their eagerness to introduce Torres 5 Light to Filipino consumers. "We are proud to bring the rich heritage of Spanish brandy to the Philippines. With Tanduay as our distributor, we are confident that Torres products will reach Filipino consumers who appreciate exceptional spirits with authentic Spanish tradition," he stated. The Torres family has a long history of cultivating vineyards in Penedès, Spain, dating back to the 16th century. Their brandy-making business began in 1928 when Juan Torres Casals started using oak barrels to age brandy. Tanduay Distillers, Inc. (TDI), the liquor and spirits arm of LT Group, Inc., reported its strongest first-half performance on record during the first half of 2025. TDI's net income of PHP1.36 billion in the first six months of 2025 was nearly double the PHP712 million earned during the same period in 2024. On the global stage, Tanduay has expanded its reach, bringing a taste of the Philippines to multiple countries, including Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, People's Republic of China, Peru, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the Netherlands, United Arab Emira tes, United States, and United Kingdom. Tanduay was recognized as the world's No. 1 rum for the eighth consecutive year in 2024, as reported by The Millionaires' Club report by Drinks International Magazine. Overall, Tanduay was the sixth top-selling spirits brand in the world in 2024.
