Slope Protection in Pasig City Expected to Complete Before Rainy Season: DPWH

Pasig: Works on the delayed slope protection structure in Pasig City are expected to be completed before the start of the rainy season, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Wednesday. In a statement, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon mentioned that the agency is expediting the project construction in Barangay San Jose to address the long-standing concerns of residents about potential landslides during the rainy season.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon emphasized the urgency of the construction, stating, "We are speeding up the construction of slope protection here because we don't want what we saw in other areas to happen, where the ground is getting softer until it collapses." Dizon inspected the ongoing project on Tuesday and highlighted the measures being implemented to mitigate the risks associated with ground softening.

The project involves the addition of 18-meter sheet piles in the area to counteract the softening of the ground, which poses a threat of landslides. Dizon further explained that President's directive was to ensure thorough coordination with local government units (LGUs) as they possess the most comprehensive understanding of local conditions.

"We will try to finish by June, because the water level in Pasig [River] will rise again," Dizon stated, underscoring the importance of completing the project before the onset of the rainy season to prevent potential disasters.
