Singapore Air Force Assists in Repatriating 24 Filipino Workers from Jeddah

Singapore: The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has successfully facilitated the repatriation of 24 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This effort was part of a larger mission to evacuate Singaporean nationals amidst disruptions in regional airspace due to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, in collaboration with Singaporean authorities, orchestrated the repatriation after the OFWs faced challenges securing outbound flights owing to limited availability. Consul General to Jeddah, Rommel Romato, accompanied the group as they departed from King Abdulaziz International Airport on March 12.

Upon their arrival in Singapore at 6 a.m. on March 13, the Filipino workers were supported by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore in arranging their subsequent travel to the Philippines. The Migrant Workers Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Jeddah played a crucial role in booking flights to Manila and extending financial aid to the repatriated individuals.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed gratitude towards the Singaporean government, praising the inclusion of Filipinos in the repatriation flight as a 'benevolent act' that embodies the ASEAN spirit of solidarity. The DFA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Filipinos abroad and ensuring their safe return home.

Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines, Constance See, highlighted the cooperation as a testament to ASEAN solidarity, emphasizing the mutual assistance between neighboring countries during crises. She noted the historical support ASEAN countries have provided each other and expressed joy in helping the Filipinos commence their journey back home, underscoring the importance of safe reunions with loved ones.
