Senators Dismiss Leadership Change Rumors

Manila: Senators on Monday downplayed rumors of a possible change in Senate leadership, saying they have not received any indication of dissatisfaction within the chamber. Senate President Vicente Sotto III stated he has not been informed of any unrest among his colleagues, emphasizing that he continues to receive assurances of support from the majority.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sotto mentioned in an interview that he is not hearing any dissatisfaction and that colleagues have been communicating solidarity and no issues with the majority. When questioned about possible leadership changes, Sotto expressed doubt but acknowledged that the Senate leadership always relies on the members' confidence. He remarked that he serves at the pleasure of his colleagues and noted that social media claims about a leadership shift are often false.

Senator Erwin Tulfo supported Sotto's remarks, stating he has not heard of any movement to replace the Senate leadership and sees no urgency for such a change. Over the weekend, Tulfo reported hearing nothing and described the situation as quiet. He acknowledged dissatisfaction as a recurring issue regardless of the Senate president but warned against letting political maneuvering overshadow legislative priorities.

Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor Ejercito also downplayed the rumors, asserting he has not been approached about any move to change Senate leadership. He noted that he might be one of the last to be approached since he is part of the leadership as Deputy Majority Leader.

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano described the leadership change talks as speculative and noted that discussions are common but lack significance without the necessary numbers. He commented that it remains rumors until the required 13 votes are present and advised that internal political noise should not distract lawmakers from governance and addressing national issues.
