Senators Back PBBM Call for Unity, End of Political Divide

Manila: Senate leaders on Tuesday welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to set aside politics and focus on the welfare of the Filipino people, hoping that reconciliation with the Duterte camp could signal a shift toward national unity and progress.

According to Philippines News Agency, Senate President Francis Escudero praised the President’s acknowledgment that the recent midterm elections indicated the people’s desire for a government addressing real-life concerns instead of political drama. Escudero emphasized that leaders should prioritize the needs of the citizens rather than be consumed by politics. He expressed optimism that building bridges could lead to better outcomes for the nation.

Escudero also commended Marcos for his willingness to reconcile with Vice President Sara Duterte and the Duterte family, viewing it as an initiative prioritizing national interests over personal and partisan conflicts. Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor Ejercito shared similar sentiments, noting that political infighting has hindered the country’s growth. He highlighted the importance of cooperation in overcoming the nation’s challenges and expressed hope for positive developments despite the deep-rooted conflicts.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada supported the President’s statement, interpreting it as a move towards national healing and progress. He emphasized the need for elected officials to focus on governance and nation-building for the common good. Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III echoed this view, stating that the President’s approach demonstrates proper leadership and the right attitude for the nation’s leader.
