Senate Elects Mark Llandro Mendoza and Edgardo Rene Samonte to Key Positions

Manila: The Senate on Monday elected Mark Llandro Mendoza as its next Senate secretary and retired Air Force Major General Edgardo Rene Samonte as sergeant-at-arms.

According to Philippines News Agency, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri emphasized the significance of the Senate secretary's role in managing both legislative operations and the welfare of Senate personnel. Mendoza was praised for his extensive experience in government, having served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2016, Secretary General of the House from 2020 to 2022, and Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs from 2022 to 2025.

Zubiri highlighted the historical significance of Mendoza's appointment, noting that it marks the first time a Secretary General of the House will also serve as Secretary of the Senate. Mendoza is expected to manage Senate affairs with competence and integrity.

Meanwhile, Edgardo Rene Samonte will resume his role as Senate sergeant-at-arms, a position he previously held during the 18th Congress. Samonte was recognized for ensuring the safety and security within the Senate complex, enabling lawmakers to perform their legislative duties without disruption. Zubiri expressed confidence in Samonte's return, acknowledging his proven leadership in maintaining security on the Senate premises.
