Albay: The Philippine Coast Guard in Bicol (PCG-5) has suspended sea travel in the provinces of Masbate, Sorsogon, and Albay as Typhoon Tino nears landmass. The weather bureau raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 in the southern portion of Masbate, including Esperanza, Pio V. Corpuz, and Placer, while TCWS No. 1 has been issued for Albay, Sorsogon, the rest of Masbate, including Ticao and Burias Island.
According to Philippines News Agency, Typhoon Tino, internationally known as Kalmaegi, was last tracked 285 kilometers east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar as of 10 a.m. on Monday. PCG-5 Commander, Commodore Ivan Roldan, emphasized that all vessels and watercraft, regardless of type and tonnage, are not permitted to sail in these provinces unless they are seeking shelter in designated safe areas.
Roldan stated, “The directive is in response to the potential impacts of inclement weather. The Coast Guard Stations in Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate are closely coordinating with local government units and shipping companies to ensure compliance.” As of the latest reports, more than 1,600 passengers and 424 rolling cargoes are stranded in various ports in the region.
The PCG is on heightened alert status and continues to coordinate emergency responses, including rescue missions, relief distribution, and other life-saving operations. Roldan urged, “The public is encouraged to remain cautious, stay updated on official weather advisories, and follow safety instructions from local government units and disaster agencies.”
