San Beda and San Sebastian Secure Wins in NCAA Women’s Volleyball

Manila: San Beda University defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-14, 25-19, 25-16, in the NCAA Season 101 volleyball tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex on Wednesday. Jeliane May Catubig finished with 14 points, seven digs, and seven excellent receptions while Janelle Bachar had 13 points built on 11 attacks and two blocks as the Lady Red Spikers improved to an 8-2 record in Group B.

According to Philippines News Agency, San Beda coach Emilio 'Kung Fu' Reyes was surprised with how his players responded following their 19-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-17 loss to Perpetual Help last Sunday. "We were like unstable then, it was very uncharacteristic for the team," he said. 'It all boils down to our emotions. Our skills didn't lack, so I told them, let's have a lot of takeaways from this game. The important thing is how they bounce back. They responded today, we went back to our system, we limited our unforced errors.' Johna Denise Dolorito scored 12 points for the Lady Pirates, who slipped to 3-7.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian College-Recoletos prevailed over Jose Rizal University, 27-25, 20-25, 26-24, 17-25, 15-7. Juna May Gonzales scored 20 points, Kristine Dionisio added 15 points, while Jercine Balajadia made 19 excellent sets for the Lady Stags, who took their sixth loss against four wins in Group A. Czarina Ramos and Nicole Deala scored 28 and 23 points, respectively, for the Lady Bombers (2-8).
