Romualdez Responds to Allegations by Zaldy Co, Calls for Fact-Based Investigations

Leyte: Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez on Saturday called for sobriety amid political tensions over allegations tied to budget insertions and infrastructure projects, saying investigations should proceed strictly on the basis of facts and sworn testimony. Romualdez emphasized the importance of maintaining a fact-based approach to the ongoing investigations, urging all parties involved to adhere strictly to the truth as presented through verified evidence and official testimonies.

According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez stated that he would not engage in a public exchange over the accusations made by his former ally, resigned party-list representative Zaldy Co. In a press release, Romualdez firmly declared, “My conscience remains clear,” emphasizing that since the inquiries commenced, no public official, contractor, or witness under oath has linked him to any wrongdoing.

The former speaker of the House of Representatives dismissed the two videos released by Co, asserting that allegations made outside sworn proceedings “do not hold water in the court of law.” He reiterated his confidence in the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, the Department of Justice, and the Office of the Ombudsman to assess evidence with objectivity and impartiality.

Romualdez also conveyed his willingness to continue cooperating with the investigation, underscoring his trust in the judicial processes to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
