Rizal Park Illuminates in EU Colors for Europe Day Celebration

Manila: Rizal Park's frequented dancing fountain lit up in the blue and yellow colors of the European Union (EU) flag in celebration of Europe Day on Saturday. The initiative is part of the European Union Delegation in Manila's string of activities at the landmark location, which includes free use of photo booths and unveiling of a special mural.

According to Philippines News Agency, the EU stated that Rizal Park, dedicated to the life and legacy of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, continues to reflect the 'historical and cultural connections between the Philippines and Europe.' Europe Day is celebrated annually on May 9 to mark the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration of 1950, which laid the foundations of the EU and the bloc's values of peace, solidarity, and cooperation.

This year's celebration in the Philippines featured the unveiling of an EU-Philippines commemorative mural and map at the European Garden or Noli Me Tangere Garden, which the EU said symbolizes the exchange of ideas and connections between Europe and the Philippines. 'Through this celebration, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Philippines and to promoting dialogue, cultural exchange and people-to-people connections,' the delegation said.
