Manila: Multiple weather systems are set to bring wet and cooler conditions to most parts of the Philippines, with the northeast monsoon, known locally as 'amihan,' contributing to the cooler weather, a forecaster reported on Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms across regions such as Bicol, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Northern Samar, primarily due to the shear line. Similarly, Palawan is expected to experience these conditions owing to a trough from a low pressure area (LPA) that remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is not anticipated to enter it.
The weather conditions in Eastern Visayas are also attributed to the easterlies, with moderate to heavy rains posing risks of flash floods or landslides in the affected regions, as warned by PAGASA. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is likely to bring light rains to the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora, with isolated light rains expected across Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Forecaster Loriedin Galicia noted the presence of cold weather, particularly during the evenings, due to the northeast monsoon. The rest of Mindanao is forecasted to continue experiencing isolated rain showers or thunderstorms as a result of the easterlies. Luzon will see moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters, whereas other areas will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas, as stated by PAGASA.
