Quiambao, Reig Jr. Lead Charge at 10th IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay

Subic bay: National team standouts Bea Quiambao and Irienold Reig Jr. are set to lead the 10th Century Tuna IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay on June 7. The two athletes, fresh off impressive wins in Davao City on March 22, aim to maintain their momentum as they compete against local and international contenders in the challenging 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run event.

According to Philippines News Agency, Quiambao is the racer to beat in the women's division, having secured the overall title and the Filipino Elite crown in Davao City. Her previous victory at the inaugural 5150 Camiguin further cements her status as a formidable competitor. Meanwhile, Reig Jr. seeks another title following a breakthrough victory in the men's division.

The event will also feature multi-titled national athlete Erika Burgos, 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Cebu champion August Benedicto, Jethro Ramos, the first Igorot to qualify for the IRONMAN World Championships in 2024, and fitness influencer sisters Aira and Alou Lopez. Organized by Sunrise Events, Inc., the tournament includes age categories ranging from 18 to 24 years and 75 to 79 years.

Additionally, the weekend event highlights the fifth anniversary of the full-distance Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines, which includes a 3.8km swim, 180km bike, and 42km run race. This race features participants from 45 countries, with prominent athletes such as former IRONMAN 70.3 champions Leyann Ramo and Satar Salem, two-time SEA Games gold medalist Julian Teves, and Jennifer Tan Uy, the first Filipina Ultraman finisher.

Athletes from various countries, including Australia, Brazil, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States, will also compete. The race week begins with a multi-sport festival featuring high-energy side events like the Sun Life Underpants Run on June 5 and the RLC Residences IRONKIDS Triathlon on June 6.

Beginners and speed specialists are set for fierce competitions in the Birch Tree Adult Boost Sunrise Sprint, which includes a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run, and the newly introduced Super Sprint, featuring a 400m swim, 10km bike, and 2.5km run.
