QC Fire Victims Receive Aid from Local Gov’t, PCSO, MMDA

Quezon city: Some 2,000 families displaced by a fire that struck a residential area in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City received aid from the local government, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Sunday in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s instruction to provide immediate relief.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PCSO said 2,000 'charitimba' (charity pail) containing food and other essential supplies, and modular tents were distributed at the city hall grounds, supervised by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles, and MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III.

The fire, which broke out Friday at 9:01 p.m., reached Task Force Bravo at 11:18 p.m., requiring at least 28 firetrucks, and was declared out by 5:16 a.m. Saturday.

Robles stated, 'Our teams worked closely with the local government to help ensure that immediate assistance reached the affected families.'

Torre, who brought the modular tents for affected families, added, 'The MMDA remains ready to assist local governments during emergencies. Through our coordination with Quezon City and PCSO, we hope to provide temporary shelter and support for families while other relief efforts continue.'

The distributed goods are for the 1,907 families temporarily staying at Flora Ylagan High School, Pinyahan covered court, San Isidro Labrador Parish, NIA covered court, Pinyahan Elementary School, National Housing Authority Balik-Probinsya covered court, and National Power Corporation compound.
