Public Servants Urged to ‘Serve with a Heart’

Passi city: Government workers, regardless of their position, are expected to 'serve with a heart.' Mayor Stephen Palmares, speaking during the kickoff of the grand opening ceremony of the 36th Civil Registration Month in Passi City on Tuesday, said serving from the heart is the 'primordial element of public service.' He encouraged local civil registrars to contemplate if the ordinary people felt the services of their office. 'These are the benchmarks, measurements of public service. Those ordinary people,' he said.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Palmares shared that one of his pet programs in relation to the celebration is the 'Libre Lungon and Libre Pantyon' (free coffin and tomb) program to indigent residents. The initiative benefits between 30 to 35 bereaved families monthly. Meanwhile, Iloilo Supervising Statistical Specialist Jerry Dolutan, in his message, said local civil registrars are the 'silent heroes behind every registered birth, every recorded marriage, and every documented life event.' 'Your work safeguards identity, protects rights, and secures the future of every Filipino. This Civil Registration Month is a recognition of your service, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the public good,' he said.

Dolutan emphasized the theme for this year's celebration, 'Navigating the Future, Together: Advancing CRVS in Shaping the Global and Regional Data Ecosystem,' which calls for the recognition that accurate, inclusive, and timely civil registration data is essential not only for governance today but for planning the future we want for generations to come. The Philippine Statistics Authority also set up the Mobile Civil Registry System, which provides for immediate issuance of civil registry documents on security paper; the Birth Registration Assistance Project that ensures free registration for the marginalized and vulnerable; and the National ID registration for the people of Passi City as part of the kick-off celebration.

The opening was also marked by a province-wide motorcade, market and trade fair, and various competitions highlighting the advocacy of PSA.
