Iloilo city: The top cop in Western Visayas on Monday assured security for the opening of classes with the deployment of 1,911 personnel and force multipliers across the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, Acting Regional Director for Police Regional Office - Western Visayas (PRO-6) Brig. Gen. Randulf Tua±o stated that comprehensive security preparations have been implemented to ensure the smooth opening of classes in the region. In a press conference, Tua±o emphasized the importance of collaboration with force multipliers in maintaining order and security during the school opening.
Tua±o announced the establishment of Police Assistance Desks in strategic areas near schools and transport hubs. Additionally, foot and mobile patrol operations will be intensified to deter criminal activities, manage traffic flow, and provide immediate assistance to students, parents, teachers, and commuters.
Despite the peaceful and manageable situation in Western Visayas, Tua±o assured that monitoring continues for an immediate response to related concerns. In his accomplishment report, he highlighted a 19.44 percent drop in eight focus crimes over the last 10 days, with incidents decreasing from 36 to 29 between May 12-21 and May 22-31.
The report showed significant reductions in murder and robbery rates, with a 50 percent decrease, along with a 33.3 percent decrease in homicide and an 11.11 percent decrease in physical injury. Additionally, there were no recorded thefts of motor vehicles during this period.
Tua±o also reported the voluntary surrender of 97 firearms and 15 explosives. Law enforcement efforts led to the arrest of 57 wanted persons and the apprehension of 47 drug personalities, including a barangay official in Antique. Authorities seized PHP19 million worth of shabu. Tua±o instructed local police to shift operations from small-time street peddlers to high-value individuals.
