Power Firm Assures Continuous Supply to Irrigation Amid El Ni±o

San roque: San Roque Power Corporation's (SRPC) management on Thursday assured the continuous supply of electricity to the grid and water to the irrigation system amid the ongoing El Ni±o. SRPC Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs Tommy Valdez, in a phone interview, said the power plant is currently providing the 115 megawatt (MW) minimum requirement to the grid.

According to Philippines News Agency, Valdez confirmed that power generation continues at 115 MW. "Same pa din (The same) still generating 115 MW during peak hours delivering the needs of farmers for irrigation," he stated. Valdez further elaborated that their contracted capacity of 8 hours per day is being consistently delivered.

Valdez highlighted that the water level of the dam's reservoir is currently at 230.79 meters above sea level (masl), which is nearly at its critical level of 225 masl. "Pataas na ang tubig, at may mga bagyo na (The water reservoir is increasing and there are weather disturbances)," Valdez mentioned, referring to Severe Tropical Storm Francisco (international name Mekkhala) and Tropical Storm Higos, which are outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Valdez expressed optimism that rainwater in the coming months would help elevate the level of the water reservoir, ensuring continued support for irrigation needs during the challenging El Ni±o period.
