Police Cars Transport Stranded Commuters in Cotabato Due to Strike

Cotabato city: The Cotabato City Police Office (CCPO) has deployed its mobility assets to cushion the impact of the transport holiday here on Monday. CCPO director PCol. Jibin Bongcayao ordered the deployment of police patrol cars to transport students, office workers, and the general riding public after public utility vehicles ceased operating at 9 a.m. to join the nationwide transport holiday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bads Ali, chairman of New Cotabato Transport Cooperative, said their group is asking the national government to grant a provisional fare increase for public utility vehicles and tricycles due to rising prices of gasoline and diesel. "We seek understanding of our passengers, please bear with us, all of us are affected by the oil crisis," Ali said.

Teresita, a college student at one of the city's schools, thanked the government, particularly the CPPO, for its swift action to address the commuting public's problems caused by the strike. "The CCPO action has somehow eased my fear of missing classes today. I hope the transport strike gets resolved soon," she said in Filipino.
