PNP to Review Use of Mobility Assets Amid Oil Price Surge Fears

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will review the use of its mobility assets amid rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict. "We need to prepare and plan for this scenario without sacrificing our mandate to be more visible, more responsive, and more reliable in terms of ensuring the safety of the people in every street and in every community," PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement Tuesday. He directed police chiefs and support unit heads to conduct the review under the Directorate for Operations and concerned national and regional offices.

According to Philippines News Agency, Nartatez stated, "Ito ay bahagi ng paghahanda ng inyong kapulisan (This is part of your police force's preparation), but we assure the public that we remain focused on our mandate of maintaining peace and order and implementing crime prevention measures." He emphasized that the move aligns with the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which maximizes personnel and resources while meeting law enforcement goals through data-driven and precise responses.

Fuel prices have risen in recent weeks, with experts warning of further increases due to tensions in the Middle East.
