PNP Tightens Security on US, Israel, Iran Embassies

Manila:<Text>

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has tightened security at diplomatic missions after Tuesday's protest near the United States Embassy in Manila. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said more personnel were deployed to secure embassies and manage traffic in areas where protests may occur. Territorial units, especially in Metro Manila, were ordered to stay alert. "We are closely monitoring the situation on the ground, particularly in embassies, which could become flashpoints for public demonstrations," Nartatez said in a statement Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, authorities are particularly focused on the embassies of the US in Manila, the Iranian Embassy in Makati City, and the Israeli Embassy in Taguig City. On Tuesday, protesters gathered along Kalaw Avenue and tried to march toward the US Embassy, but police blocked them at Roxas Boulevard.

Nartatez said the police presence aimed to protect demonstrators and the publ ic. The PNP is coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs and other agencies to monitor developments. "Our priority is peace and order and the protection of diplomatic missions. We urge everyone to remain calm and observe peace," he said.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated in late February after the US and Israel launched a major military operation against Iran. In retaliation, Iran fired drones and missiles toward Israel and struck US military facilities in some parts of the region.
