Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the public for its favorable rating in the latest OCTA Research survey, which revealed that 72 percent of Filipinos have a positive perception of safety within their communities.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP information chief and spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co credited the public's positive perception about safety to the strategic deployment of police forces. Co emphasized that the survey results reflect a strong partnership between the PNP, local government units, and other concerned government entities in maintaining peace and order.
The OCTA Research survey, conducted during the second quarter of 2026, surveyed 1,200 adults from across the nation. It found that 72 percent of respondents feel secure in their neighborhoods. Among these respondents, 68 percent reported no fear of walking alone at night, while 54 percent expressed no concerns about home invasions.
Col. Co highlighted that the strategic deployment of police officers has been crucial given the limited number of personnel. "We can attribute this to our increased police deployment. As you know, the number of our police force is not unlimited, that's why we do strategic deployment. This is where and when our police officers are most needed, that's where we deploy and place them," he stated during an interview at Camp Crame.
He acknowledged that crime still occurs but emphasized the PNP's swift actions to address and resolve incidents. "We are not saying that no crime is happening. Crime is happening, something is happening, but what are we doing? We take immediate action and resolve these crimes immediately," he added.
The OCTA survey also found that 65 percent of adult Filipinos trust the PNP, an increase from the 63 percent recorded in March 2026. Additionally, 63 percent of respondents expressed satisfaction with the PNP's performance, up from 61 percent in the first quarter of the year.
In response to these positive ratings, PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. assured that the PNP will not become complacent and will continue to enhance the peace and order situation in the country. He expressed his appreciation for the public's trust and confidence in the PNP's efforts.
"To serve and protect the Filipino people is the mandate of your PNP, and doing so with honor, compassion, and integrity is a commitment that we continue to pursue and strengthen," General Nartatez stated in his remarks.
