Cebu: The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has deployed 175 personnel and various mobility assets to bolster security measures for the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit events scheduled to take place in Cebu in May.
According to Philippines News Agency, the contingent consists of 175 HPG personnel, including 108 motorcycle riders operating 108 motorcycles, 38 drivers and 24 crew members managing 38 mobile patrol vehicles, all overseen by five convoy officers. Following a send-off ceremony held at Camp Crame on Tuesday, these personnel and assets will be officially integrated into the Presidential Security Command's (PSC) overall security framework for ASEAN 2026.
During the ceremony, Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan, the acting director of PNP-HPG, conducted a thorough inspection of the readiness and operational capabilities of the HPG's mobility assets and assessed the preparedness of the personnel. Batangan highlighted the significance of this mission, stressing that the deployment symbolizes the Philippines' commitment to global cooperation, peace, and regional solidarity.
He emphasized to the personnel that they are the frontliners in ensuring the safe and secure movement of ASEAN delegates and dignitaries. "Our objectives are clear: zero incidents, seamless mobility, and national pride," Batangan conveyed to the contingent. "Your presence on the road must reflect order, safety, and excellence as you carry both the badge of the HPG and the flag of the Philippines."
The deployed HPG personnel and assets will play a crucial role in supporting traffic management, route security, and overall mobility coordination in Cebu. This effort is part of a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the ASEAN 2026 events.
