PNP Enhances Applicant Screening Amid Espionage Concerns

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) is tightening vetting procedures for police applicants amid growing concerns over espionage threats and possible attempts by foreign actors to infiltrate security institutions.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. announced that the recruitment process will now include deeper background checks and expanded applicant screening. Nartatez emphasized the importance of ensuring that the PNP recruits the most trustworthy and suitable candidates to maintain the integrity of the force.

The enhanced measures are part of the PNP's efforts to reassure the public that the police force remains vigilant against any attempts to compromise national security. Nartatez also stated that the PNP will increase counter-intelligence efforts within the organization. "We have established a confidential reporting mechanism for our personnel to report any suspicious recruitment attempts within our ranks," he said.
