PNP Deploys Over 2,000 Officers for ASEAN Summit Security in Central Visayas

Panglao: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed more than 2,000 personnel to bolster security for events related to this year's Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Central Visayas. The send-off ceremony was held Wednesday at the Panglao Town Plaza in Panglao, Bohol, highlighting the operational readiness of local and regional security forces ahead of the international event.

According to Philippines News Agency, as part of the country's hosting of the ASEAN Summit this year, Central Visayas-particularly Cebu and Bohol-will host several high-level meetings, including the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF). In a statement Friday, the PNP said the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) has launched the Bohol Tourist Police Unit's (BTPU) R.I.D.E. Patrol, composed of 88 specially trained tourist police officers mobilized across the province.

The officers are equipped to respond quickly to emergencies and ensure the safety of both tourists and residents, the PNP said. PRO-7 has also intensified patrols in tourism and coastal areas, supported by specialized units trained in rapid response, crowd management, maritime security, and emergency operations. "Land and water mobility assets are being maximized to ensure swift action, especially in high-tourist and hard-to-reach areas," the PNP said.

The measures aim to deter crime, enable quick response, and maintain public confidence as international attention focuses on the Philippines. "Ang paghahanda natin para sa ASEAN Summit ay hindi lang tungkol sa dami ng pulis sa lansangan (Our preparations for the ASEAN Summit are not just about the number of police officers on the streets). It's about being prepared, alert, and synchronized with all our partners," acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.

The PNP added that the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, local government units, and other force multipliers are also supporting efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly ASEAN Summit in Central Visayas.
