Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) is confident that the suspects in the separate killings of a policewoman and her son, and of a police sergeant, will be convicted in court. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. expressed assurance that all possible angles in both cases were pursued, with evidence meticulously reviewed to build a robust case.
According to Philippines News Agency, Gen. Nartatez emphasized that the evidence collected supports a strong likelihood of conviction against those involved. The case of PSMS. Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael, has been deemed solved with the arrest of four suspects. The PNP is now focusing on locating the remaining suspects in the killing of PSSg. Renato Casauay Jr., including alleged gunman Julian Salamat.
Police investigations revealed that Mollenido and her son were victims in a botched car deal, while Casauay's murder was reportedly tied to a successful anti-drug operation he led in December of the previous year. Four individuals have been apprehended in connection with Casauay's killing, including a police corporal allegedly involved in failing to arrest Salamat after an attempted confession.
To aid in the capture of Salamat and the remaining suspects, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced a PHP1-million reward for information leading to their arrest. Gen. Nartatez commended the dedication and diligence of police personnel in working towards resolving these cases.
