Zambales: Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Tuesday called on all commanders and personnel to remain focused on their mandate of ensuring public safety amid political noise and other issues, particularly on social media.
According to Philippines News Agency, Nartatez emphasized that criticisms and intrigues being spread online should serve as motivation and a challenge for the organization to enhance its service and protection for the Filipino people. He noted that these political distractions, including attempts to involve personnel in partisan politics, are intended to divert attention from their primary duties of maintaining peace and order.
Nartatez highlighted the PNP's ongoing efforts to reduce crime rates, supported by high public trust and performance ratings, as evidence of the organization's commitment to maintaining peace and order nationwide. He pledged continued collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and other law enforcement bodies to fulfill this mandate.
The PNP has intensified its internal cleansing efforts and bolstered coordination with local government units to enhance crime prevention and anti-illegal drug operations. Initiatives like the "Safer Cities" program have led to a notable decline in crime incidents, and the ongoing crackdown on smuggled products has been a priority.
Nartatez also reiterated the PNP's dedication to improving emergency response and increasing police visibility in communities. He instructed regional and local police units to maintain their focus on law enforcement and public safety, asserting that the organization's mandate remains steadfast despite surrounding political noise.
He addressed circulating reports concerning potential changes in the DILG leadership, affirming that their relationship with Secretary Jonvic Remulla is professional and collaborative. Malaca±ang confirmed on Monday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. continues to have confidence in Remulla.
