Manila: Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Sunday reminded officers to ensure their families’ safety while they fulfill their duties amid the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong).
According to Philippines News Agency, Nartatez emphasized in a press release that preparedness begins at home. He noted that officers who are confident their loved ones are secure can better focus on public service. “Our families are our strength and inspiration. As you serve the people during this typhoon, make sure your loved ones are safe and secure. A police officer at peace about his family’s safety can give his full heart to the service of others,” Nartatez stated.
He also instructed regional, provincial, and station commanders to allow deployed personnel to check on their families while maintaining their readiness to respond to emergencies. “Let us serve with compassion and presence of mind. Preparedness starts within our own families,” he added.
The PNP’s disaster response teams and Reactionary Standby Support Forces assist in rescue, evacuation, and relief operations in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and local governments.
