Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced significant achievements in its crime-fighting efforts since Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. took office as chief last year. The PNP has apprehended more than 23,000 wanted individuals and seized PHP11.29 billion worth of illegal drugs.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PNP released data on Friday highlighting the arrest of 23,708 wanted persons and the execution of 19,922 anti-illegal drug operations, which resulted in 23,196 drug-related arrests since August 26, 2025. Additionally, authorities have retrieved 45,734 firearms across more than two million operations targeting loose firearms.
The police force has conducted 408 cybercrime operations, leading to 511 arrests, and 1,468 anti-smuggling operations that confiscated goods valued at PHP3.95 billion. In efforts against vehicle theft, 243,408 anti-carnapping operations were launched, resulting in the recovery of 877 stolen vehicles.
The report also indicates a decline in kidnap-for-ransom cases to five, with two cases resolved. Moreover, there were notable decreases in index crimes and focus crimes by 11.68 percent and 11.64 percent, respectively. The crime solution efficiency rate improved to 84.40 percent, while the solution efficiency for index and focus crimes increased to 65.13 percent and 66.82 percent, respectively.
The PNP has addressed 4,203 administrative cases involving 6,507 personnel under integrity monitoring. It has also provided promotions, awards, and financial assistance amounting to PHP13.2 million to families of 40 police personnel killed in operations and over PHP19.5 million to 29 personnel wounded in operations. Furthermore, educational assistance totaling PHP33.6 million was granted to 1,602 beneficiaries.
During the PNP's first combined Foundation Day and Police Service Anniversary on Thursday, Gen. Nartatez emphasized the importance of discipline, integrity, and intensified operations. He stated, "These gains show that effective policing can deliver results without bloodshed, guided by accountability, data and respect for human rights."
Looking ahead to 2026, the PNP plans to focus on enhancing forensic and prosecutorial coordination, fully operationalizing Unified 911, and continuing infrastructure and capability upgrades with a PHP6.97-billion allocation in the 2026 General Appropriations Act.
