PHLPost Releases Stamps Showcasing Philippine Festivals

Manila: In celebration of National Heritage Month, the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) has unveiled a special set of stamps and souvenir sheets that highlight the country’s festivals, aiming to honor its rich cultural heritage.

According to Philippines News Agency, Postmaster General Luis Carlos stated in a news release that it is an honor to celebrate these festivals not just through parades and performances, but also by immortalizing them with commemorative stamps and philatelic frames. These stamps are intended to preserve these cultural moments and share their stories both nationally and globally. Carlos emphasized that Filipino festivals are renowned for showcasing the country’s distinct traditions through artistic expression.

The newly released stamp collection features festivals such as the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City, Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City, Singkaban Festival in Bulacan, and Sinulog Festival in Cebu City. Each stamp is designed to capture the essence of these cultural events, highlighting the spirit, joy, and artistry involved. The stamps are adorned with vivid imagery and traditional costumes, symbolizing regional pride and unity.

The Singkaban Festival in Bulacan is depicted with bamboo arches and traditional artistry, celebrating the province’s passion for culture and history. It is a tribute to art, talent, and patriotism. The Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City, also known as the Flower Festival, pays homage to the natural beauty of Baguio’s highlands. The Kadayawan Festival in Davao City is a thanksgiving event that delves into the cultural richness of its 11 indigenous tribes. Meanwhile, the Sinulog Festival in Cebu City combines spirituality and celebration with the rhythmic beat of drums and dance in honor of the Sto. Ni±o.

PHLPost has produced 10,000 copies of 16 (blocks of four) on sheets of stamps, each priced at PHP16. The initiative aligns with the country’s observance of May as National Heritage Month, as declared by Presidential Proclamation 439 in 2003. Filipinos worldwide are encouraged to commemorate the nation’s cultural legacy and recognize their role in preserving it for future generations.
