Philippines Welcomes US-Iran Peace Deal, Hopes for Lasting Peace

Manila: The Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), on Wednesday expressed optimism for a permanent end to hostilities in the Middle East following a peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran. The DFA welcomed the development, which is seen as a significant step towards stabilizing the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Analyn Ratonel highlighted the pivotal contributions of countries such as Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye in facilitating dialogue and fostering peace between the U.S. and Iran. Ratonel emphasized the severe economic and humanitarian impacts of the conflict, noting the loss of lives, damage to civilian infrastructure, and disruptions to the global economy.

The Philippines expressed hope that the recent agreement would pave the way for a lasting cessation of hostilities and contribute to a durable peace. The announcement came after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that a deal had been reached, which would see an immediate halt to military operations, including those in Lebanon.

President Trump also declared on social media that the agreement with Iran involves reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the U.S. Naval blockade. The peace agreement is set to be officially signed on June 19 in Switzerland, marking a significant milestone in international diplomacy.
