Philippine Government Blacklists 16 Contractors as Part of Infrastructure Crackdown

Manila: The Philippine government is intensifying its efforts against errant contractors, with 16 companies already undergoing blacklisting proceedings and more than 60 others potentially facing similar actions, as announced by Malaca±ang on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that this initiative targets contractors involved in allegedly anomalous infrastructure projects, which include issues of substandard work, overpricing, and delayed delivery. The Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) has already revoked the licenses of four contractors, Castro noted.

Castro emphasized that President Marcos is committed to ensuring that infrastructure projects continue unimpeded despite the blacklisting. She reassured that there are still many contractors capable of maintaining high standards of work, thus not affecting the ongoing implementation of infrastructure across the country.

The blacklisting forms part of a broader strategy to enhance transparency and prevent the misuse of funds, especially as the government intensifies its battle against widespread corruption in flood control projects. In line with these efforts, Marcos has directed government agencies to promptly settle their obligations to contractors who meet their project commitments, aiming to stimulate economic activity while upholding accountability in public spending.
