Iloilo city: The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) in Western Visayas has disbursed approximately PHP14.81 billion in claims, with an additional PHP2.44 billion currently being processed for 1,356,020 claims in the region as of the end of December 2025. According to Philippines News Agency, PhilHealth-6 acting Vice President Lazaro Tabsing shared during the Kapihan sa Western Visayas event that moderate risk pneumonia tops the medical claims, with over PHP1 billion disbursed for 41,306 cases. Hemodialysis leads the procedural claims, receiving more than PHP3.62 billion from the state health insurer. Other prevalent medical claims include acute gastroenteritis, hypertensive emergencies, urinary tract infections, chronic kidney disease, stroke infarction, upper respiratory tract infections, and fluid and electrolyte disturbances. Tabsing highlighted PhilHealth's commitment to preventing and managing these illnesses early through the YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Program) services, which focus on pre vention, early detection, and continuous care. Tabsing also noted the increasing number of claims for hemodialysis, indicating a rise in Filipinos requiring regular kidney treatment. Other significant procedural claims include expanded newborn care packages, routine obstetric care, chemotherapy, facility-based emergency care, outpatient HIV/AIDS packages, and polymerase chain reaction testing. While not among the top ten claims, TB-DOTS, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals, recorded 8,518 claims, with PhilHealth paying over PHP18 million to support tuberculosis treatment and control. Field Operations Division Chief Junie Sabusap reported that by December 31, 2025, 3,084,541 people out of the over 8 million population of Western Visayas had enrolled in YAKAP. Nearly 1 million had their first patient encounter. The successful implementation of the Guaranteed Access Medication to Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) program, which offers 54 additional medicines beyond the 21 basic medications, is expected to encourage more PhilHealth members to enroll in YAKAP. As of the end of November last year, 96.74 percent of the 8.09 million projected population of Western Visayas were registered with the state health insurer.
