Manila: The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) announced its 2026 calendar of activities on Tuesday, revealing plans to host four major international volleyball tournaments. These include the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge in Nuvali from May 20 to 24, the 2nd AVC Women's Cup from June 6 to 14, the Volleyball Nations League Women's Week 2 from June 17 to 21, and the 6th SEA V-League Men's Week 1 from July 10 to 12.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippines will compete in two of these tournaments: the 2nd AVC Women's Cup and the 6th SEA V-League Men's Week 1, both of which will take place in Candon City, Ilocos Sur. During a press conference at the PNVF office, PNVF president Anthony Liao proposed a strategy to have Thai coach Tai Bundit, currently the head coach of Alas Pilipinas, select players for the national training pool before club teams make their picks in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft.
Players chosen by Bundit will receive monthly allowances and are expected to commit to the national team for two years. Liao emphasized that this approach aims to resolve scheduling conflicts faced by players who juggle commitments between their clubs and the national team. The press conference was also attended by PNVF vice president Yul Benosa, secretary general Otie Camangian, board members Fr. Victor Calo and Sherwin Maganda, and executive director Ireneo Bautista.
Additionally, the Philippines is set to participate in several other tournaments, including the 6th Asian Beach Games, the Asian Women's U18 Championship, the Asian Men's U18 Championship from July 12 to 18, the 6th SEA V-League Men's Week 2, the 6th SEA V-League Women's Week 1 and 2, the FIVB U17 Girls' World Championship, and the 19th Asian Games.
