PH Teqball Gains International Federation Support

Makati city: The F©d©ration Internationale de Teqball (FITEQ) has pledged its support to the development of teqball in the Philippines, a sport that is rapidly gaining recognition and has been included in the official programs of significant international competitions. Teqball merges elements of football and table tennis and is played on a uniquely curved table, accommodating singles or doubles matches.

According to Philippines News Agency, teqball was invented in Hungary in 2014 and has specific rules, such as prohibiting players from hitting the ball consecutively with the same body part and allowing a maximum of three touches before returning the ball. In doubles, each player is required to make at least one touch, and matches are conducted in best-of-three sets, with each set concluding when a player or team scores 20 points.

FITEQ president Dr. Victor Husz¡r recently met with Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino in Makati City. Husz¡r expressed FITEQ's commitment to bolstering the sport in the Philippines through the Philippine Teqball Federation (PITEQ), led by Victor Yap. Tolentino highlighted the sport's rising popularity and potential for Filipino athletes to excel on a global stage.

POC secretary-general Wharton Chan also participated in welcoming Husz¡r, who was accompanied by PITEQ secretary-general Peter Paul Soliman and executive director Jovy Mamawal. Teqball was prominently featured at the Thailand Southeast Asian Games in December 2025 and is slated to be part of the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, and the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later this year.

The sport has already seen success at the Asian Youth Games last November, where Filipinos Crystal Carino and Nicole Tabucol secured a bronze medal in the girls' doubles category. FITEQ, headquartered in Budapest, boasts 124 member federations, including 36 Asian nations. The Teqball World Cup, now referred to as the World Championships, has been an annual event since 2017, with the exception of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
