PH, Japan Strengthen Agricultural Cooperation with Focus on Sustainability

Manila: The Philippines and Japan are set to strengthen their agricultural partnership with an emphasis on climate-resilient farming and improved market access, as well as the Philippines' upcoming participation in a major international horticultural expo. Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya and Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. met to chart the strategic direction of agricultural cooperation between the two nations.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the meeting, Ambassador Endo reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting the development of the Philippine agricultural landscape, a key component of the economic relationship between the countries. The discussions included expanding existing collaboration frameworks, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and facilitating better market access and trade.

A significant part of the dialogue centered on the Philippines' participation in the Green Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan. This international event is anticipated to be a crucial platform for the Philippines to highlight its sustainable agriculture innovations, diverse horticulture industry, and rich cultural and agricultural heritage.

Secretary Tiu-Laurel expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its consistent partnership in various agriculture-related initiatives. He emphasized the importance of these collaborations in advancing the Philippines' goals of food security and rural development.

The meeting highlighted the evolving nature of the Philippines-Japan partnership, which is evolving toward a more modern, technology-driven, and environmentally conscious agricultural sector.
