PH Eyes More Drills With Australian Navy On Rules-Based Maritime Order

Manila: The Philippine Navy (PN) is aiming to increase its collaborative engagements with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) to bolster a "secure and rules-based maritime order." PN flag officer in command Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta emphasized this objective following his meeting with RAN chief Admiral David Hammond at Naval Station Jose Andrada on Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, Vice Admiral Ezpeleta expressed appreciation for Australia's support in training, interoperability, and the exchange of best practices, which have significantly contributed to the shared goal of maintaining maritime security. He conveyed confidence that through ongoing collaboration, both navies will maintain readiness to effectively address regional and global security demands.

Australia, recognized as one of the Philippines' major military allies, has actively participated in various land, air, and sea drills in recent years. Ezpeleta acknowledged the RAN's steadfast partnership, which has been instrumental in enhancing the capability and professionalism of the PN, reflecting the enduring friendship and strong professional ties between the two naval forces.

During the meeting, Ezpeleta and Hammond discussed mutual interests including maritime security initiatives and capacity-building efforts, underscoring the commitment of both nations to regional stability and maritime safety. The engagement highlighted the strong cooperation between the Philippines and Australia, reaffirming the importance of their relations in addressing common security challenges and promoting interoperability between their naval forces.
