Antique: The Department of Education (DepEd) School Division of Antique has successfully received 33 bicycles as part of its 'Pedal of Hope' project, aimed at supporting last mile learners. This donation was made during the Brigada Eskwela kickoff ceremony held at the Tario Lim National High School in Tibiao, Antique on June 1.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dr. Evelyn Remo, the chief of DepEd Schools Governance and Operations Division, stated in an interview that the ceremony also saw the contribution of 350 armchairs and various other donations from cooperatives and benefactors. The initiative, advocated by DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr., also encouraged the donation of motorcycles for teachers working in remote locations, resulting in the provision of two motorcycles.
The donated motorcycles, like the bicycles for students, are intended to aid teachers in reaching schools situated in isolated areas. Additionally, there was a contribution towards building a makeshift dormitory for teachers in the upland barangay of Sumaray in San Remigio, as mentioned by Remo.
Dr. Remo extended her gratitude to the Antique Federation of Cooperatives, Bugasong Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), Belison MPC, and other donors for their contributions to the Brigada Eskwela. She emphasized the ongoing nature of the Brigada Eskwela initiative and encouraged other stakeholders to actively participate in addressing the needs of both learners and educators.
